Making Dreams Come True.... On a Budget

Ryan and I are fans of frugality.  We totally admire families that make their own soap and cut their own hair and eat healthy dinners for 84 cents a serving-- you get the picture.  Walt Disney World was no exception when it comes to our love of pinching those pennies.

So when it came time to pick the place to stay, we knew we didn't need much.  Clean and affordable were all we wanted.  Little did we know, that clean and affordable would also make our kids' dreams a reality.

Our kids have an unmitigated obsession with Herbie the Love Bug.  Our room was decorated with Herbie.  Herbie posters, Herbie wallpaper, Herbie bedspreads.  Jared made sure to bring the Herbie his Grandma made for him (Have you ever tried finding Herbie the Love Bug toys?  They don't exist- we're presumably living in the wrong decade.)

And who needs to pay money for a fancy character breakfast when you can eat granola bars with Herbie every morning?

I bet Mickey Mouse wouldn't let Jared sit on top of him to eat breakfast.

And Kaci worked on her modeling poses with Herbie.  Let's just say that this kind of picture at 4 years old is okay, but if she tries it again when she's 16, we'll have a talk.

Every morning, the kids would say good morning to Herbie and upon returning from the day's events, they would say good night.  On the last morning, Jared took a towel and cleaned Herbie's headlights so he could see better.  And if you ask them about their favorite part, they both will tell you it was Herbie.  Well, maybe not Lucas.  He enjoyed the hospital.
