The kids and I venture to California tomorrow afternoon. Ryan will stay behind and catch up on his grad school work and welcome a new class of future company commanders while the kids and I visit family and friends. He is getting a little melancholy about our leaving so he spent the weekend trying to do great things for the kids. First, he took Jared to McDonald's (Jared's favorite place in the world). Unfortunately, they failed to make a plain cheeseburger...
We also took the kids to a Japanese Steakhouse, thinking they would enjoy the hibachi chef. Well, they didn't. Their ingrained fear of fire is now permanently set and Ryan and I received enough disapproving looks from others to avoid that experience for awhile.
In order to make up for the horrific fire-filled dinner, we took the kids bowling. Jared had the highest score, but Kaci didn't let the size of the ball intimidate her.
And if that wasn't enough, we took the kids swimming:
Our final responsibility, before heading out West, was to get Jared through a dentist visit. We have been turned away from a couple of other appointments because of his extreme histrionics- he has had no traumatic dentist experience but acts like it. Through the screaming and the tears (much like we heard at the Japanese Steakhouse), he gurbled something about "a monkey whose lips were numb" and he didn't want that to happen. Don't ask me what this means-- I am going to blame Curious George. Anyways, he made it through this visit partly because I gave him the camera and let him take all the pictures he wanted while at the dentist. They are quite esoteric:
It was a busy weekend.
Broken this week:
another picture frame
plastic baseball bat
another library book (Kaci apologized to the librarian today when we returned it.)
inflatable Cars chair

Those are the cutest pictures. How did you get your kids to pose like that? I need pointers.
